Debunk: CNN Attacked and hypocritically Apologized

CNN’s Jack Cafferty attacked China in the broadcast on The Situation Room on April 9, 2008. Here was what Cafferty said:

“Well, I don’t know if China is any different, but our relationship with China is certainly different. We’re in hawk to the Chinese up to our eyeballs because of the war in Iraq, for one thing. They’re holding hundreds of billions of dollars worth of our paper. We also are running hundred of billions of dollars worth of trade deficits with them, as we continue to import their junk with the lead paint on them and the poisoned pet food and export, you know, jobs to places where you can pay workers a dollar a month to turn out the stuff that we’re buying from Wal-Mart. So I think our relationship with China has certainly changed. I think they’re basically the same bunch of goons and thugs they’ve been for the last 50 years”

Yesterday CNN hypocritically apologized, after the Chinese Foreign Ministry demanded Tuesday that CNN’s Jack Cafferty apologize for remarks he made, and complains from many Chinese who watched the show.

Here are CNN’s apology and our debunks:

“CNN would like to clarify that it was not Mr. Cafferty’s, nor CNN’s, intent to cause offense to the Chinese people, and [CNN] would apologize to anyone who has interpreted the comments in this way.”

  • That’s what talk show host Don Imus of CBS and NBC said when he got suspended over racist remarks.
  • It’s always others’ faults, either miss “interpreted” or no “intent”.
  • They always apologize for people’s bad feeling, not their words.

“CNN is a network that reports the news in an objective and balanced fashion. However, as part of our coverage we also employ commentators who provide robust opinions that generate debate.”

  • Read Cafferty’s words again! Or, CNN defines “objective” and “balanced” very differently.
  • To generate debate. What a crap. Throwing in flame-ware to gain attention and eye balls are very low level guerrilla way of marketing the contents. CNN is getting really low these days.

“On this occasion Jack was offering his strongly held opinion of the Chinese government, not the Chinese people — a point he subsequently clarified on The Situation Room on April 14.”

  • Read Cafferty’s words again!
  • By the way, now it’s “strongly held opinion”. Where did the “balanced” and “objective” go?
  • Why not just stand up for your employee, we’d pay a bit respect for the guts. A cheap and logically flawed quibbling can only show the true face of CNN.

“He issued a clarification of his remarks on Monday’s Situation Room, saying that by “goons and thugs,” he meant the Chinese government, not the Chinese people.”

  • Where did you got that cheap line, the “government, not people”?
  • Many years ago, all the communism governments constantly used the exact same line in their propaganda, which you call it “brainwash” behind the iron curtain.
  • You must be a quick learner when started building you very own platinum curtain and brainwashing the western societies.

It’s such a disappointment to see the a prominent western media is disgracing to this low. Some of us still remember, when we were hungry protesting in Tian-An-Men Square in 1989, how we looked up CNN and its western colleagues as the moral guardians and envied truth tellers. Today, they are becoming the big dump truck comes in on every Monday morning that only 3-years-old kids love it the most, garbage in and garbage out.
